BRC sprints proved a mixed day for the menโs club, with some success and some disappointment.
The novices entered in the novice 4 and intermediate 8 categories. The novice 4+ won in a straight final against BRC with a margin of 2 lengths. The intermediate 8 drew a straight final against MCB J18. MCB proved the sharper crew of the stake boats and took a decisive early lead, QUB ran out of water to catch them on the short course with MCB winning by 3/4 of a length. The intermediateย 4+ won in their final against MCB by a canvas. George Murphy and Aaron Kernohan put in promising performances in the novice and intermediate sculls respectively, with George reaching the final but being eventually defeated by a Portadown sculler. The men also entered in the senior 2-, 4- and 8+ categories. The coxless boats had steering difficulties which sabotaged their efforts of progressing. The senior eights was the highlight of the day with Queenโs inter crew taking a narrow win over BRC. Queenโs were faster out of the blocks and took an early lead, then BRC began to push back until both crews were near level. However, Queenโs managed to hold them off winning narrowly by a margin of a 1/2 canvas.
