5th European Universities Rowing Championship 2009


Queen’s men’ senior VIII crew is currently competing in the 5th European Universities Rowing Championship, in Kruszwica, Poland. The championship is taking place 2-5 September. Twelve men’s eights are entered in total, setting up for two heats Thursday, repêchage on Friday, and the final on Saturday.

Update, Heats, Thurs 3 Sept:

Two heats took place on day one, with Queen’s men racing in the second. The winner of each heat would directly progress to the final on Saturday. Queen’s men finished second in their heat, after a strong performance by University of Bydgoszcz (Poland), who won in a time of 5:39.05. The lads must now fight it out in tomorrow’s repêchage, were the first two boats will progress to Saturday’s final. We wish the crew the very best of luck tomorrow, as they will surely face tough opposition.

Results Day One

Update, Repêchage, Fri 4 Sept:

Queen’s men progressed to the ‘A’ final of the men’s VIII, after finishing first in their repêchage. The crew is due to compete in tomorrow’s final at 16:00, were we wish them the very best of luck.

Update, ‘A’ Final, Sat 5 Sept:

Queen’s men finished in fifth place in today’s final, in a time of 5:51.61. The Queen’s men rowed hard, but were outdone by more powerful opposition. The event was thoroughly enjoyed, and a good start back for the crew. It was also a great eye-opener to the field of talent from mainland Europe, so Queen’s should be more witting of their opposition come HORR in March.
