Forthcoming University Championship Regatta 2010

Queen’s Rowing is due to compete in Saturday’s University Championships of Ireland and School’s Regatta. The squad made the trip to Cork today in preparation for Saturday’s racing. The men are to field 18 crews across 9 boat classes (I1x, S1x, I2x, N4+, I4+, S4-, N8+, I8+ and S8+), and the women 8 crews across 6 boat classes (N4+, I4+, S4-, N8+, I8+ and S8+). This ensures an action packed days racing, as much a test of recovery, as of boat-speed, as each university goes all-out for the overall championship.

Unlike 2009, crews will have to endure the 2 kilometre stretch at the National Rowing Centre, Inniscarra. This will shed light on which club has made the smoothest transition to the short-course.

Queen’s men will be fighting to retain the Wylie Cup for the second year running. The women hope to challenge for the Bank of Ireland Cup, and are in good stead to do so. On Sunday Queen’s will compete in Skibbereen regatta. We wish them all the best of luck.
