Queen’s Rowing Update

Queen’s Rowing Update, 11 Nov 2010.

Queen’s Rowing have just returned from a successful training weekend in Coleraine, which involved the whole club both novice and senior. This served as the perfect preparation for the senior crews entered in this weekend’s Fours Head in London and for Fresher crews entered in Bann HOR. Also it was a great opportunity to integrate the novices with the senior squad and they seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Many thanks to Bann rowing club for hosting and feeding us between sessions!

This year Queen’s Rowing have entered three crews in the Fours Head of the River, two men’s and one ladies’ crews. The men have entered an Elite Quad and an Elite Coxed Four, and the ladies an Elite Coxless Four. The Elite Quad of Rory O’Connor, Jonathan Mitchell, Abdulrahman Mohammed and Colin Williamson start 9th in the start order behind Tideway Scullers. The Elite Coxed Four of Michael Ewing, Marc Butler, Christopher Coyle, William Howell and coxed by Lauren Owens are setting off 49th, sandwiched between two Cambridge fours. The women’s Elite Coxless Four of Alexandra Greene, Claire Mcilwaine, Hannah Lavery and Zoe Patterson start 128th at the back of the E4- pack.

At Bann HOR this weekend, both the Ladies’ and Men’s squad have two fresher Eights entered, giving the new recruits their first taste of competition. The ladies have also entered a coxed Four in the event, such is the current depth of this year’s ladies’ squad.

We wish all Queen’s crews the best of luck in what will be their first races of the 2010/2011 season. Queen’s Rowing would again like to thank Bann Rowing for accommodating the club last weekend and we look forward to attending their Head. Keep an eye out on the site for updates of the weekend’s racing.
