Lagan Head 2012 & Lagan Scullers Head 2012 – Results

Queen’s showed good performances over both the Lagan Mini Head, on the weekend before last and the Lagan Scullers Mini Head, last weekend.

There were 43 total entries for the Lagan Mini Head and Queen’s  Ladies Club entered an impressive four eights, with the Inter Eight finishing 24th, the Novice A Crew finishing 27th, their B Crew 32nd and the C Crew 34th. There was racing contact between the crews, as clashes of oars occurred between the B and C crews as both made the tight turn around King’s Bridge in their build up to the finish.

Queen’s Men’s Club entered 1 Intermediate Single Scull, raced by Vice-Captain Matt McKibbin who had a disappointing race due to a last minute injury which affected his rowing; his final position was 18th. There was also 1 Men’s Novice Eight entered, which finished 28th.

Due to unfortunate timing and heavy traffic, the Queen’s Men’s Senior Coxless Quad unfortunately missed their start and was disqualified.

Former Club Captain and current Ladies Coach Andy Wells organized the additional Queen’s Novice Crews, who were unable to race in the mini head, to take part in the ‘Micro-Head’ occurring soon after the mini head.  The distance was from the Ormeau Bridge to Queen’s Boat Club and there were eight entries in total consisting of Queen’s crews and schools crews.

Regarding the Novices in particular, the Mini-Head and Micro-Head allowed for some good racing experience at an early part of the Rowing season. Well done to all competitors and organizers involved.

The Lagan Scullers Mini-Head took place last Saturday, 03/11/12, with Queen’s Ladies entering an Intermediate Coxless Quad, an Intermediate Single and a Novice Single. Unfortunately the results are unavailable at this time but will be sent in the next update once they become available.

Below are some photographs of the crews launching for the mini-head, the results link and the photographs of the crews racing which were taken by Harry Rhys Davies, former Queen’s Cox and Queen’s Sport Photographer.
