Update – May 2013

QUBBC Men’s Club

Senior men
Last weekend a few of QUBBC senior men were free from exam pressure and managed to spent a very productive and enjoyable three days of training on Blessington lake (and up Wicklow mountains when too windy). The weekend coincided with Dublin Metropolitan Regatta in which Andrew Little (Captain) and Tiernan Oliver came 3rd in Senior pairs, only a length off the winners, an Under-23 Galway composite. Based on this performance the QUBBC pair has been invited to trial next weekend (8th of June) in Cork for the Irish Under-23 World Championship squad.

Novice Men

The QUBBC Novice Squad participated in the Annual BRC Sprints event on the Lagan in particularly wet conditions, on Saturday, May 18th.

The Novice Men entered an Eight and a Coxed Four in the Novice category, with both boats drawing against BRC boats in the semi-finals of the Novice Men’s Coxed Four and the Novice Men’s Eight races. Queen’s won in both categories and went on to race Coleraine Inst. in both the Novice Men’s Coxed Four Final and the Novice Men’s Eight final. The Queen’s Novice Men’s Coxed Four won by a length of clear water and the Queen’s Novice Men’s Eight won by three lengths of clear water. A Queen’s Novice Men’s single scull was also entered (Beatty) who lost to a sculler from Lagan Scullers Club in the Novice Men’s Single Sculls final.
