Good afternoon from the 1st day of Irish Championships 2017!
The weekend began today with the Women’s Club 4+ who narrowly missed out on the final. This was followed by the Women’s Intermediate 2- who came in a very close 4th.
The men began their weekend with 2 Novice 4X+ who raced a straight final and finished 2nd and 5th, a narrow miss for our first pot.
This was followed but the Men’s Club 8+ where our Intermediate and Novice crews were rivals again. Both cruised through their heats into the final however conditions were far from favourable resulting in a 4th place for the Intermediates and 5th place for the Novices.
The following race was the Women’s Novice 4X+ who won their heat by 3 lengths and had a tight race in the final finishing 2nd, a good result for the girls after a number of setbacks.
The final race of the day was the Women’s Intermediate 8+ and with a last minute crew substitution finished 5th in a straight final.
With all this action in Cork, we look to Serbia for results of the EUSA Rowing Championships.
Miles Taylor and Chris Beck in the Lwt2X finished 3rd in their heat, but with all crews heading through we know they have more left in the tank for their final on Sunday at 10.40am CET.
Sam McKeown in the M1X finished 2nd in his heat and is through to the semi-final tomorrow at 4.15pm CET.
We look forward to updating you with tomorrow’s results!
Yours in rowing,
Abbie Ellis-Saunders and Lucy Burrows
